What to say when your child is left out

You don’t need a plan or a script tonight, just a few honest sentences you can say out loud, right when it counts.

Say this tonight

You get to decide what you're willing to do to belong somewhere.
Being left out this time doesn't decide anything about next time.
I'd rather you have one real friend than a whole group that isn't.

Framing belonging as a choice the child controls restores some footing when a group has taken it away.

The story says the rest

In their story, the pressure to be someone else to belong gets shown honestly, and the character finds a line they're willing to hold.

It ends with their sense of self back in place, and at least one relationship where they get to be fully themselves.
